Marquette Soars Past Georgia Tech in Beach Division Third Place Game
Marquette utilized a balanced, high-octane scoring attack en route to an 84-60 win over Georgia Tech in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Beach Division third-place game on Wednesday night.
Four players scored in double figures for Marquette, who never trailed in the contest. Kam Jones led the way with 19 points, including four 3-pointers, Tyler Kolek added 14, Sean Jones had 11, and Oso Ighodaro recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Ja’von Franklin did it all for Georgia Tech with 17 points and 14 rebounds, but Marquette’s offense was too much to overcome.
The Golden Eagles came out flying, opening the game on an 18-4 run. A steal and slam by Stevie Mitchell pushed Marquette’s lead to 35-21 with five minutes remaining, and the Golden Eagles eventually took a 41-28 lead into halftime.
Marquette continued to push the pace in the second half, relying on transition points and depth scoring. Overall, the Golden Eagles shot 48 percent and outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-2 on fast-break points, 38-28 on points in the paint, and 29-15 in bench points in the contest.
Marquette returns home for a matchup against Chicago State on Saturday. Georgia Tech will also return home, facing off against North Alabama on Saturday.
