Michigan Claims Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament Championship
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 27, 2024) – The Michigan Wolverines claimed the 2024 Fort Myers Tip-Off championship in impressive fashion on Wednesday night, defeating Xavier 78-53 in front of a sold out crowd of 3,500 at Suncoast Credit Union Arena and an FS1 national television audience.
Tournament MVP Danny Wolf finished with a team-high 20 points and 14 rebounds in the game, pacing a Michigan effort that shot nearly 50 percent from the field and hold Xavier to 34.5 percent shooting and 19 turnovers. Wolf was joined on the Fort Myers Tip-Off All-Tournament Team by teammate Roddy Gayle Jr., who averaged 13 points in Michigan’s two victories in Southwest Florida.
The Wolverines were quick to take control of the game, using a 19-3 spurt over a six-minute stretch midway through the first half to establish a 38-21 advantage with just over four minutes to go in the half. Xavier would work its way back and eventually close to within eight points with just over seven minutes to play in the contest but would get no closer.
Xavier was led offensively by Ryan Conwell, who had 19 points and Zach Freemantle had 14 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Musketeers. Freemantle was named to the event’s All-Tournament Team.
