Mercer and Miami (OH) Earn Semifinal Wins, Head to Palms Division Title Game
Mercer Wins Overtime Thriller Over Against Jacksonville, 90-89
Freshman Brady Shoulders knocked made a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and Tyler Johnson made four pressure free throws in overtime as the Mercer Bears overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Jacksonville, 90-89 in overtime on Monday afternoon in the Fort Myers Tip-Off tournament.
With Mercer trailing, 74-71 in the final seconds of regulation, Shoulders connected on a three-pointer in the corner to tie the game with five seconds to play to force overtime. Shoulders finished with a career high 13 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
Ahmad Robinson led all players with 25 points on 9-of-15 (60%) shooting and all five Mercer starters scored in double figures on the day. Johnson added 18 points with five rebounds and went 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the final 15 seconds of overtime to ice the game.
Miami (OH) Pulls Away for 70-58 Win Over Siena in Fort Myers Tip-Off Palms Division Opener
The Miami University men’s basketball team defeated Siena Monday afternoon 70-58 in the first game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off. With today’s win, head coach Travis Steele earned his 100th career victory.
Kam Craft and Peter Suder led all RedHawks (3-2) in scoring with 18 points each, while Eian Elmer added 15. Major Freeman led the Saints (3-3) with 15 points.
The Redhawks will take on Mercer in the championship game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off Palms Division at 1:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Siena will face Jacksonville in the third-place game at 11 a.m.
