Seton Hall Takes 62-59 Win Over Cal For Third Place
Jared Rhoden dropped 21 points, and timely defense and free throw shooting down the stretch led Seton Hall to a 62-59 victory over Cal in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Beach Division Third-Place game.
Down by five with under four minutes remaining in the game, Seton Hall got the clutch baskets IT needed to pull out the victory. Bryce Aiken hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:33 remaining to put the Pirates up 57-56. After a pair of free throws by Cal’s Andre Kelly, Kadary Richmond converted a layup to put Seton Hall up once more, 60-59.
The two teams then split free throws, maintaining the Pirates’ one-point advantage, before Rhoden was fouled and added the decisive two free throws.
Richmond finished the game with 12 points, and Tyrese Samuel and Alexis Yetna chipped in 10 points apiece for Seton Hall. As a team, the Pirates committed only six turnovers – their fewest in a game this season.
Andre Kelly was masterful for Cal, scoring 23 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe, along with 11 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the year. Grant Anticevich added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Bears.
